Town centre disabled parking spaces

Recently, Judith did some research to find all the disabled parking spaces in Keighley town centre.  She arranged with the Town Clerk to have that information on the Town Council web-site, but here is another copy so you don't need to look any further.

As at January 2009, there are are about 25 Blue Badge Parking Sites in Keighley which are administered by the District Council:

  • Cooke Street
4 bays at the side of the road
5/6 spaces in the car park
  • Church Green:
4/5 spaces (at market end of car park)
  • Hanover Street:
3 spaces in a bay near rear of Post Office
  • Cavendish Street Car Park:
9 spaces for blue badge holders
  • Hanover Street (On the Shopping Centre side):
    2/3 blue badge spaces
  • Low Street:
Seems to have some discretionary blue badge parking, but it may not be official.
  • Scott Street Car Park:
    4 spaces
  • Cliffe Castle Museum:
2 blue badge spaces in the car park
2/3 by the museum (Spaces by museum are exclusively for disabled people)

By law privately owned car parks used by the public have to provide a percentage of the total number as designated Blue Badge parking spaces.  The rule is 4% of total plus four spaces.

  • Morrison's Market Car Park (privately owned, formerly council owned):
    5 blue badge spaces
  • Airedale Centre Multi-Storey Car Park (privately owned):
    20 spaces on varying floors
  • In addition there are some spaces for disabled people at all the supermarkets: Morrisons; Sainsburys; Netto; and Aldi

Site accessibility policy

WCAG 2.0 'AAA', check it with ATRC Accessibility Checker *. Valid HTML 4.01 Transitional *

We aim at the highest possible accessibility standards - WCAG 1.0, AAA and WCAG 2.0, level 3 (with valid HTML).  Unfortunately, that's hard to prove.  The checker linked above, for instance, fails almost every page on the site, but when I follow up the "faults", so far, they have all turned out to be warnings about issues that have been taken into account.  Please feel free to check for yourself, then if you find an exception, please

In accord with our aim of accessibility, it is site policy not to specify font families or point sizes for our pages.  You can choose the size and typeface you see: set the 'default font' in your own browser.  (Roger Beaumont has published some instructions about how to set your default font.)

Volunteers required.  We use the automated checking tools above to try to make this Website accessible but need help from someone who has a real sight disability to give us feedback about practical use with a screen-reader - especially about problems.  If you can help, we'd be very glad to hear from you.

The REAL alternative

"The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a free, fair and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity."
Preamble to the Liberal Democrat Federal Constitution, first sentence.
