Judith Brooksbank Judith lives in the Keighley East Ward where she is a Town Councillor for Long Lee and Parkwood. She works for a world class Electronics Company in Bradford, after having been a tutor at Keighley College.

Judith was born at Marske-by-Sea on the Yorkshire coast but has lived in Keighley for many years.  She is married to Gerald and has two grown up sons.  In her spare time she enjoys singing and walking, sometimes at the same time.  She also likes cooking and baking, but not at the same time as walking.  Judith enjoys listening to the radio, especially comedy.  Her favourite is "Old Harry’s Game".  A favourite day out is to the Yorkshire coast.

Judith joined the Liberal Party and then its successor, the Liberal Democrat Party, because she believes in its basic principles of freedom, fairness and equality.

She has campaigned - successfully, it seems - for the future of Park Wood, the ancient woodland within her Town Council ward.  She says, "I am getting a lot of support on this.  People really care about what happens to the woodland and the wild creatures who live there."

Eventually Bradford Council has stated that the plan for a Keighley Eastern Relief Road was "erroneously" included in their Regeneration Plan and say they have no current plans for a road to be built through the wood.

Judith remains on watch, in case this might be just what she originally feared: a form of words ("current plans") to hide an intention to develop such a plan.

Judith has campaigned against the closure of local post offices.  She is also concerned about the lack of dental treatment for many people in Keighley.  She is working with Bradford Council officials to improve playgrounds.  She has defended rights of way.  She contributed to the successful campaign to stop the flooding at Long Lee Village Hall.  At Judith’s suggestion the topic of Keighley Annual Town Meeting was Youth Services.  She wants to work with others to improve provision for young people so that they are given the opportunity to use their free time in a constructive way.

Judith believes that day to day care for elderly and disabled people should not be cut, but improved and that the time it takes to assess people before they get help is far too long in Bradford District.  She says, "My sister became paralysed before she died of cancer and I know how important it is for anyone in this situation to have help with every day needs such as washing and dressing.  It is important from a practical point of view and for the person’s self esteem."

Site accessibility policy

WCAG 2.0 'AAA', check it with ATRC Accessibility Checker *. Valid HTML 4.01 Transitional *

We aim at the highest possible accessibility standards - WCAG 1.0, AAA and WCAG 2.0, level 3 (with valid HTML).  Unfortunately, that's hard to prove.  The checker linked above, for instance, fails almost every page on the site, but when I follow up the "faults", so far, they have all turned out to be warnings about issues that have been taken into account.  Please feel free to check for yourself, then if you find an exception, please

In accord with our aim of accessibility, it is site policy not to specify font families or point sizes for our pages.  You can choose the size and typeface you see: set the 'default font' in your own browser.  (Roger Beaumont has published some instructions about how to set your default font.)

Volunteers required.  We use the automated checking tools above to try to make this Website accessible but need help from someone who has a real sight disability to give us feedback about practical use with a screen-reader - especially about problems.  If you can help, we'd be very glad to hear from you.

The REAL alternative

"The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a free, fair and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity."
Preamble to the Liberal Democrat Federal Constitution, first sentence.

"Hope not hate"
